Wiki Page: OpenBuildings Designer CONNECT Edition and AECOsim V8i crash when opened

Product(s): OpenBuildings Designer, AECOsim Building Designer Version(s): CONNECT Edition, V8i Area: General Subarea: Crash Problem Whenever OpenBuildings Designer Update 6 or AECOsim Building Designer V8i Ss6 are opened on a specific workstation, they will crash. This same user was able to open both products before on this same machine and can still open them when logged on to a different workstation, so it doesn't seem to be a user profile or permissions related issue. However, if a different user logs on to this workstation then both applications will crash. We've tried reinstalling them, generating new preference files, cleared the \temp folder, etc., but nothing has helped. Solution It was discovered that user had installed PKPM analysis software on this machine, and something in that installation was conflicting with both OpenBuildings Designer Update 6 and AECOsim Building Designer Ss6. Uninstalling it allowed both applications to run correctly. Based on the exception.log file the failure was at a core/platform level and included lines referring to "StrongNameSignatureVerification" which relates to signature validation in fully trusted .NET domains. See this Microsoft article for more information.

Hi Bob, Thank you, we will take a look at your CFGs and get back to you shortly. There is a configuration option that may resolve this, but we need to review it in the context of your CFGs before posting here.

Forum Post: RE: Render Material on Part - correct way to refer to a library material

Hi Rik, I haven't worked much with materials in quite some time so had to search around for the relevant details. First, as mentioned in this thread you can define the variable MS_DEFAULT_TO_EXTERNAL_MATERIALS so that materials are stored only in libraries: https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/microstation_visualization/f/visualization-forum-1977638070/57780/how-can-i-stop-local-copies-of-materials/136670#136670 There used be a separate variable MS_LOCAL_MATERIALS but that was deprecated in CONNECT Edition. After, you can use the commands that Jerry outlines in this Visualization forum thread (near the bottom) to Convert/Export/Copy local materials to shared library versions. https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/microstation_visualization/f/visualization-forum-1977638070/90916/local-material/260471#260471 About half-way down Jerry also describes scenarios where you can use local copies to try out changes, and then when ready, either save them to your libraries (vs. messing with the shared versions) or overwrite those local changes with the stored versions.

Any particular reason why no Circular hollows sections in the AU_Onesteel.xml shipped with OBD U6? that xml seems to be the same for all datasets. Best regards, Tuan Le

Anyone else noticed when using an .xls-file in the remapping settings when exporting to .dwg, all levels seem to be remapped but the active level isn't? Is this a bug, or is there a logical reason behind this?

We're replying to Bob's specific situation via his SR. The generalized solution for directing the Dataset root for OBD to a Custom Configuration is as follows: On the C:\ drive set the location of a Custom Configuration in the ConfigurationSetup.cfg file, [General] section _USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION = W:/OBD/Configuration/ This will result in _USTN_CONFIGURATION being resolved to W:/OBD/Configuration/ In the root of the Custom Configuration, in this example: W:/OBD/Configuration/, modify WorkSpaceSetup.cfg (this can either be a copy of our delivered file, or simply a new file with that name containing only the required statements. Note do not include a copy of ConfigurationSetup.cfg in this location, it should only exist on the c: drive). Note, this file must be called WorkSpaceSetup.cfg. Unless other statements are appropriate in this file, all that is needed are these two lines: %undef _TF_WORKSPACEROOT _TF_WORKSPACEROOT = $(_USTN_CONFIGURATION) The first line clears the existing definition of _TF_WORKSPACEROOT, the second applies the required definition. At the moment I don't have a clear understanding of why the %undef is necessary, but this has been tested and works. Without the %undef statement the application will always use the delivered datasets. Update 7 For future reference, when Update 7 is released (soon) this behaviour will reverse! Simply defining a Custom Configuration location will make OBD look for the Dataset root in the Custom Configuration (and to be clear, this only applies when a Custom Configuration is defined). In that use case both _TF_WORKSPACEROOT can be omitted from WorkSpaceSetup.cfg. To use the delivered Datasets the statements in WorkSpaceSetup.cfg at the root of the Custom Configuration will need to be: # Update 7 and later to use delivered datasets %undef _TF_WORKSPACEROOT _TF_WORKSPACEROOT = $(_USTN_INSTALLED_CONFIGURATION)

Hello Tuan, Now the hollow sections are present in "AU_ColdFormedSections.xml", not in AU_OneSteel.xml. I hope this helps you with your query. Regards, Alifur
