Forum Post: Floor manager units changing when changes applied
I'm struggling with a file in OpenBuildings (update 5), The issue I'm having is with the floor manager tool, the floor heights that we have created are in MM and working fine (until yesterday). An update was required to one of the levels, I carried out this change but when I applied the changes the decimal point has moved 3 places to the left. Any idea why this issue would have occurred? The only thing I can think of is the design models scale was 1:100.. Any guidance appreciated.

Wiki Page: What is the difference between IFC Import and the IFCIN keyin?
Product(s): OpenBuildings Designer (and AECOsim Building Designer) Version(s): CONNECT Edition Environment: N/A Area: Import/Export Subarea: IFC Problem I've found that the IFC Import tool doesn’t include the ability to map IFC classes to native OpenBuildings Designer component types as well as Family + Parts like the IFCIN keyin does. We've also noticed that file sizes when using the IFC Import tool are also smaller. Is this difference in behavior expected? Solution Yes, this difference is expected. The IFC Import tool available from the Backstage serves the same purpose as the File Open and Reference Attach dialogs when the file extension filter set to IFC, both of which were originally introduced in MicroStation V8i. The IFCIN key-in, on the other hand, is the older OpenBuildings/AECOsim IFC Import tool that was available before MicroStation itself had the ability to open or reference IFC files. This is why the Backstage option results in a smaller file size - it is translating only the graphics. The IFCIN tool brings across those graphics as well, but also maps IFC entities to DataGroup catalog items hence the larger file size. And since IFC is essentially used as a coordination format vs. a parametric model exchange format, the focus in CONNECT Edition is on the MicroStation method since the file sizes are smaller while still maintaining good graphics fidelity.

Wiki-Seite: Bentley Facilities Planner
Bentley Facilities Planner is an application for managing facilities in all types of organizations. It provides tools that enable a facilities manager to keep track of people, documents, furniture, equipment, and so on, in any/all sites leased or owned by an organization. Bentley Facilities Planner uses MicroStation (or MicroStation PowerDraft) as a user-interface and to display graphics, and uses ProjectWise for the storage of all design files and documents. The tight relationship between Bentley Facilities Planner and ProjectWise ensures reliable retrieval of reference information, linked documents and area information. All asset and attribute data is stored in a ProjectWise database, and is referred to generally as the Facilities Management Model or FM Model . The only information stored permanently in design files is the graphic elements relating to area perimeters. When a graphical representation of assets is required, it is generated on the fly directly from the information in the database. Note: To use Bentley Facilities Planner you should be familiar with 2D design and 3D viewing concepts as covered in the MicroStation (or MicroStation PowerDraft) documentation. For more information, choose Help > Contents. No prior ProjectWise experience is necessary, although a familiarity with ProjectWise documents and folders is certainly helpful.

Wiki Page: Creating Catalog Items and Assets
An asset is a general class of an object which can be created in the FM Model, and if required, placed in the design file. Desks, chairs, PCs are all examples of common asset classes. The specific type of asset you can create depends on the items available in your catalog. Catalogs are used to store the standard types of furniture and equipment used in the FM Model. For example, an asset class such as chair might have 10 different types of chairs stored in the catalog. Each catalog item has a set of attributes which define such items as the brand of chair, the chair's dimensions, and so on. So as you are creating a class instance, the first step is to select a class of asset, such as chair, and then select from the catalog a specific type of chair, such as Lazy Boy Recliner. The current demonstration model delivers catalogs of furniture and equipment for placement under a set of default classes which are typical of those used in a building facilities management environment. You can add new catalog items and extend the information stored with each item if required. Creating Catalog Entries Catalogs allow you to link standard attributes for an asset to the graphical element used to represent that asset in a design file. The attributes attached to assets in a catalog are only those which are common to all instances of that asset, such as supplier or purchase price. Attributes which are only relevant to a single instance of an asset, such as its bar code or serial number, are attached to it when it is placed in the FM Model. Assets are linked to graphics by named symbologies. These are a combination of a cell and the symbology with which this cell is displayed. Each display filter used to display graphics can have its own symbology. In this way you can achieve total control over the way in which the graphics in your FM Model are displayed. Creating a catalog entry can be split into two main activities, creating the graphics for the asset and creating the entry in the catalog. Graphics are created using normal MicroStation commands and stored in a standard Bentley Facilities Planner cell library. You must add the cells to cell libraries included in your Bentley Facilities Planner document management system otherwise Bentley Facilities Planner will not find them when you create the catalog items. Creating entries in the database requires three main steps: Enter the name of the new asset into the catalog with its attributes. Create a named symbology in the catalog, attach the cell created previously to this symbology and assign the color, weight, line style and level at which the cell displays. Attach the asset to the named symbology for all levels of display filter. Each display filter can have its own named symbology for every asset in the catalog. CAUTION: When you wish to add entries to a cell library, you MUST check the cell library out before entering them and then check the library back in when you have finished. If you do not, the entries are simply added to the local copy of the cell library, which cannot be returned to the central storage area. The next time the library is copied or checked out from the central store, these entries will be over written. Note: There are three display filters in the demonstration model, each of which can display an object using a different symbology, Sparse (displays an object with little detail), Detailed (displays an object in more detail) and Model (displays an object in 3D). When you first create an FM Model, it may be useful to assign the same symbology to a number of display filters (for example, the Sparse and Detailed filters might be the same). You assign a filter to the current symbology by selecting it and clicking Set. You can deselect a filter previously selected for assignment by selecting it and clicking Reset. Bentley Facilities Planner is delivered with three display filters: Sparse, Detailed and Model. Each display filter can display a different cell and it may be necessary to create three cells for each asset, one for each of the filters. Although these cells can all be stored in the same cell library, it is recommended that separate libraries be used to store the cells for each display filter. Generally, 2D cell libraries will be used for the sparse and detailed cells. The model cells must be stored in a 3D cell library. The graphics are created using standard MicroStation commands and the cells created using the MicroStation Cell Library dialog box. Creating Assets Assets are stored in the database, and using Bentley Facilities Planner, drawn in the design files on request. Under normal circumstances an asset is located in only one area and linked to other areas through the area links in the location hierarchy. However, there may be situations where an asset is located in more than a single area, either of the same class or of two or more different classes. If area overlap is permitted in a class which has direct links to assets, it is possible for the asset to occupy two or more areas. The position of an asset in the model is the location of the origin of the cell used to represent it. If area overlap is permitted, it is possible for this to be located in multiple overlapping areas. Similarly, if the FM model is configured to allow direct links between assets and a number of area classes, the same situation can occur. Provided that you are careful in preparing asset reports, this should not be a problem, but you must be aware that in the situation described above, it is possible for the same asset to be listed more than once. Note: You can open the Create Asset wizard from various locations in Bentley Facilities Manager; for simplicity, the following procedure only documents opening it from the right-click menu. If you open the Create Asset wizard from the Commands Class List, the wizard automatically opens to the Modify Instance screen for the selected object. Note: Certain classes of asset, such as Employees, do not have a catalog. When creating these asset classes, you simply enter the attributes directly into the Create Asset wizard.

Forum Post: RE: OBD U5 Grids on sheet
Hi Chris, Keep in mind that unlike a 3D model, the grids displayed in a drawing or sheet will not auto-adjust their bubbles as you zoom in and out. That said, I'm assuming the grids look the same in the Drawing as they do in the Sheet? If so, does the Clip Volume have Clipped or Un-clipped edit handles?

Wiki Page: Repair/Modify/Uninstall OpenBuildings Designer
Product(s): OpenBuildings Designer Version(s): CONNECT Edition Environment: N/A Area: Installation Subarea: Repair There are times when OpenBuildings Designer may need to repaired or perhaps a component that was not initially installed may need to be added. Previously AECOsim Building Designer V8i could be repaired or modified from "Program and Features" in Control Panel. Changes to the Windows Installer used by CONNECT Edition products mean that the repair option is no longer available from either the Control Panel > Programs and Features or from Windows 10's Apps & features settings. Both now offer only Modify or Uninstall: The repair option is available directly from the installer files. Steps to Accomplish Run Setup file for OpenBuildings Designer CONNECT Find the location where Setup_OpenBuildingsDesignerx64_10.xx.00.0xx.xxx.exe file is located (the location of the file should be known to your support team or for individual users may be in the user's Downloads folder). Run the setup/installer file by double-clicking it. Select "Repair" or "Modify" option Follow the dialogs and select the appropriate options.

Forum Post: RE: OBD connect edition Ribbon missing
Hi Ravindra, Your last response was empty. As mentioned above, you haven't provided enough detailed information for us to help with that seems to be a very unique issue - I have never come across the ribbon bar simply not displaying at all. So as Jan asked: What exactly did you try, what steps, what changes? We know you reinstalled OBD, but have you tried a Repair per the wiki that Orgho mentioned? The only fact we know is that you use OBD (ok, but what version) and from screen capture we can decide you use (some) version of Windows 10. And next? Card, driver...? We know you have Update 6, but what about your Windows 10 build number, NVIDIA graphics card model and its driver number? This may be a bit tedious, but necessary when an issue seems to be tied to something unique to your environment. Is this the first version of OpenBuildings or AECOsim that you've installed on this machine? Do you have any other Bentley products installed?

Forum Post: RE: Floor manager
Hi Alain, That circled error above states that the floormaster.dgnlib failed to be checked out by/from PW. But in your case the floormaster.dgnlib is not stored in a PW datasource nor managed by PW, correct? I'm also assuming that your network folder pointed to by PROJ_DATASET is also being used by other variables... Do you see any other errors in the Message Center or is it only the floormaster? FWIW, using PW in a fully un-managed fashion is not something that we'd typically see or support. So it's possible that this may also be a factor. But perhaps others reading this have tried doing so and can offer additional input.

Hi thanks for the reply. Yes this was the issue. I was unaware that the units had to be the same, this does not make sense to me I would like to think that regardless of which file you are in when you edit the working units that it would not throw the units out in the BB_FloorMaster file. Thanks for your help.
